Millions of Reasons Run May 2024

Another year has gone by, and I have another year to help raise funds for BC’s Children’s hospitals. I run because I can, I run to raise donations for children with cancer, I run for those kids who can’t right now, but with hope that some day they will be able to again. It startsContinue reading “Millions of Reasons Run May 2024”

Dirty Feet Trail Series #1- My first trail race

Not knowing the course being my first time in this area of desert trails in Lac Du Bois Grasslands Park in Kamloops, BC. , I set the main screen to mileage on my watch. From the race course description I read on the Dirty Feet Trail Series web site, I knew approximately where the climbs wereContinue reading “Dirty Feet Trail Series #1- My first trail race”

Getting back into mountain biking

Most of you don’t know that I use to live on my bike. I spent ten years making my living as a bike courier in Vancouver BC. Then for the next dozen years, I made my living designing, manufacturing and selling mountain biking protective wear as a grass roots business. It’s name was Core RatContinue reading “Getting back into mountain biking”

1277.26 km’s ~ Nothing to sneeze at

2023 has been the biggest running year I’ve had yet! I have tallied up the mileage and I had run 1277.26 km’s, 199 km’s more than last year. This has been my 3rd season running, and I have learned so much throughout!  Highlights were learning about cadence running and nasal breathing. I have a fewContinue reading “1277.26 km’s ~ Nothing to sneeze at”

Putting perceived hardship into perspective

Over the past few years, I have read a few inspirational books, memoirs from early explorers, people who have endured to survive in their quest of exploration. In 1888 Fridtjof Nansen, together with five companions, became the first to cross Greenland’s inland. They spent six weeks skiing across the ice cap from east to westContinue reading “Putting perceived hardship into perspective”

Backcountry dirt road running addiction

I got addicted to running longer routes on back country dirt roads last month, while running my Million of Reasons Children’s Hospital fundraiser. My goal was 75 kilometres, though by running these different routes, I managed 118 km’s over 7 days. Back country road running has opened up a brand new door for me!  Yesterday,Continue reading “Backcountry dirt road running addiction”

Million reasons 75 km fundraiser run-Day 4-Finale!

Monday morning~ I listened to the rain pelting down all night. As I lay in bed, I was thinking maybe run days this week will be Tues & Thurs, instead of Mon & Wed. I got up and sipped my coffee looking out the back window watching the rain coming down. We live in aContinue reading “Million reasons 75 km fundraiser run-Day 4-Finale!”

Million reasons run~Day 3

My legs were still feeling it from my last Million reasons run- Day 2, but today is a scheduled run day, so I sucked it up and off I went! I like to run first thing in the morning, after a cup of coffee. But it’s no regular cup o’joe! I add a dollop ofContinue reading “Million reasons run~Day 3”

Million reasons run-Day 2

I ran a totally different route this morning for a change of scenery. I had zero expectations, not knowing how I would feel, though remembering there was quite a bit of uphill at the start. As it turned out, the warm up climb was 2 km’s, the longest continuous climb I had run yet. TheContinue reading “Million reasons run-Day 2”

Million reasons run-Day 1

Today was my first Million reasons 75 km fundraiser run, which lasts the duration of May. Weather wise, this morning was a gloomy day, though I was lucky to have missed the rain. Even though I had taken a bunch of days off to let my achilles tendon repair, my body felt heavy and sluggish.Continue reading “Million reasons run-Day 1”

Long distance running is a total mind game

I have heard this statement from long distance trail runners, but didn’t really get it until now. I went out this morning feeling totally tanked. I thought I might perk up as soon as I started, which I often do. Though this morning, after a 4 kilometre loop I still felt like poop. I startedContinue reading “Long distance running is a total mind game”

Celebrating 2 years of trail running

During a conversation with a friend the other day, it occurred to me that I have been running now for 2 years! And in reflection of that thought, it appears that I have come a long way during that time! April 4th 2021 Recorded in my data sheet: 1st run 2.8 km was super hard,Continue reading “Celebrating 2 years of trail running”

I feel like my running has hit a new level.

In a scant 2 weeks, I have more than doubled my running distance.
This morning I ran a recovery run, after having ran the farthest ever, a half marathon on trail 2 days ago. As I was running along, I got that lovely feeling that I could run forever….

Celebrating my first year of trail running

This weekend is the anniversary of running for 1 year.
My first run day was the Sunday on the 4th of April 2021.
I ran 2.8 km’s in a gruelling 30 minutes.
It was really difficult. My body wouldn’t move and I could barely breathe.
I have just tallied up the numbers from my log book and was in total and utter disbelief of what I had managed to achieve in my first year of running!

Starting a new chapter

I will be turning 59 years old this December and I feel myself embarking on a new & exciting chapter of my life journey.I have discovered my new passion of trail running, that in its total simplicity is also extremely intense at the same time. I guess it’s just what I needed. Tackling my goalContinue reading “Starting a new chapter”

Fountain Ridge summit~take 2

On Wed 26 May, I summited Fountain ridge for the second time. This trip I wore my Scarpa mountaineering boots but had problems with my choice of socks, having gotten a blister only half way up. Fortunately I had some mole skin in my first aid kit, otherwise I’m not sure if I would haveContinue reading “Fountain Ridge summit~take 2”

Summiting Fountain Ridge

On the morning of May 10th 2021, not feeling particularly energized, we (me and my Staffordshire bull terrier, Angus decided to hike up Fountain Ridge which is just behind my house. We figured we’d try out Angus’s new Ruffwear pack and my Black Diamond trekking poles by hiking half way up the ridge. “Just aContinue reading “Summiting Fountain Ridge”

Trail running with Salomon

This morning, I decided my knee felt good enough to do a test run.It has been 16 days since I tweaked it due to a mal-adjusted mountain bikeclipless pedal and I have been careful during that time to let it heal.Even though it had been over 2 weeks since I ran, I felt good havingContinue reading “Trail running with Salomon”

Inspired to run

Depression this winter seemed to take forever to overcome.I had no motivation nor inspiration what so ever, something totally foreign to me. Usually I am super busy with a list of things to do, but that all changed thispast winter. One of my girl friend’s suggested it might be the “covid blues”, andI think sheContinue reading “Inspired to run”

Building muscle mass over 50~half way update

I began my regime to building more muscle mass near the end of January. So that I would have a record of my efforts, I took a few measurements at the start. Research shows that results start to show between 84-112 days. To date, I have hit the middle of my regime, having taking anContinue reading “Building muscle mass over 50~half way update”

How daily exercise helps keep depression at bay.

I start everyday with a hike. Sometimes it might be a short one if I’m really tired, or sometimes I’m out there for hours, consumed with clearing trail, and coming home happily exhausted. It makes no difference what the weather is doing, all that matters is that I get out there. Exercise is healthy notContinue reading “How daily exercise helps keep depression at bay.”

Building muscle mass over 50

As I have gotten older, I’ve lost a great deal of my muscle mass.Even though I am fairly strong, my disappearing mass has become a little frightening to me, so I have decided to put myself onto a program to regain some of that mass back. After age 30, people lose between 3% to 5%Continue reading “Building muscle mass over 50”

Follow your dreams

I just watched this inspirational story called: The Eagle Huntress by Otto Bell. (Released January 24, 2016) I am drawn to these people because I believe I have some mongolian blood in me! When I made my felted wool hat and put it on for the first time, I felt ancient feelings stirring in me,Continue reading “Follow your dreams”
